Edtech startup Utter App, in partnership with Wadhwani Foundation, on Friday launched CoRakshak, a safety app created for blue collar workers and essential service providers.
The content for the app was created in accordance with guidelines issued by WHO, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, among others, the startup said in a press release.
The app offers contextualised safety training across nine job roles including delivery boys, police, health workers, drivers, maids, etc. The app is available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Gujarati, the startup said, adding it planned to expand its coverage across 40 job roles and nine Indian languages.
“Unlike white collar workers where most of them are working from home, blue collar workers venture out more often to serve the nation and support their families. It is necessary that these workers are adequately aware and trained for self-care at workplaces. Also, they should be provided with ways to maintain hygiene and distance in their congested living conditions,” Utter co-founder Ninad Vengurlekar said.
In addition to the information overload with Covid-19 updates on traditional media, a lot of erroneous information is being shared around informally that is leading to confusion, fear and hysteria amongst blue collar workers. The economically disadvantaged sections of the society especially fall prey to fake news and hence there is an immediate need to redirect them to easily consumable and authentic information, the press release added.
The aim of the app is to bridge the information gap that exists between privileged and under-privileged sections of the society, when it comes to Covid-19 safety. “The information provided has to be contextualised to their daily lives and routines and transformed into actionable inputs that are relevant and implementable. It is the only way India can keep the pandemic under control while restarting the economy in safe mode,” Wadhwani Foundation’s executive vice president Ratna Shah said.
